Riverbanks is a cute and fun zoo to visit. We especially enjoyed this trip due to the lack of crowded exhibits. That is always a special perk for homeschooling...visiting places when many of the crowds are at school and work :o) ! Abbee and Arlee-Jane experienced something new at the zoo. PONY RIDES! They really were having a great time. Have you been to the bird exhibit there?...a must see. A bird flew so close to Cloe's head that it's wing flapped up against her head. The aquarium is nice too...lots better than we expected.

Edisto Fun with Grandma
After a long day in Walterboro we needed to head out....to the beach of course. Destination Edisto. We were all happy to relax in the breeze, collect treasures and compete to find sharks teeth. I told Grandma Carolyn that no visit is complete without finding at least one...I gave it to her. Wonder if she still has it?
Treasure Maps Must Appear Ancient
Abbee decided to have a treasure hunt. She plotted the course and decided something was wrong. "Mom" she said, "This map doesn't look old enough!" I had to fix that for her. TEA BAGS to the rescue. After Dad saw what we were up to, he had to join in...I mean take over! That's okay though. After the map was dried they were off to find the hidden loot. An old glove and a gardening shovel are exciting finds!

Birds, Ballerinas and The Beauty Shop
Arlee-Jane, Abbee, Cloe and Halee all decided it was time to shorten those locks! It usually takes me some time to work up the nerve to attempt such a daunting feat! But I decided to jump right in this time. This was Arlee-Jane's FIRST haircut. She didn't want the brush to touch her, so it was tricky. She encouraged me to use those scissors though - guess I better keep a watch out for mini makeovers :o)! To help me keep her head straight Halee read her two books. The first was Little Red Bird by Nick Bruel and the second was Belinda Begins Ballet by Amy Young. A huge helper is my sweet Halee! I don't have a picture of Abbee's new do...she hopped into gaming with Willie as soon as she was done.
Library Takes Shape
Today we have worked diligently towards setting up our Academy Library. I knew that things were going well when Cloe said, "This feels like we are working in a library!" This has been a great day for "copy work" and "counting"!!! Abbee has been counting the number of pages in each book she recorded. We noticed that for some reason most of the early reader books were not numbered. They have all done a wonderful job with their assignments. You would all be proud. Are you interested in borrowing a book? Let us know. We will be moving right into the nuts and bolts of the library system as soon as the inventorying is complete. There is so much more to a library than using a membership card to check out a book! Oh yeah, we are making some of those too!
